A Bit of a Puzzle
“If enlightenment is the unquestioned goal of existence, what about the problem of timeless nondual being, with all of eternity to be nondual, yet somehow and for some purpose choosing to manifest intricately and perniciously dual forms?”
–Richard Grossinger (a.k.a. Richard Towers, American Writer, Anthropologist and Publisher of North Atlantic Books, 1944-)
Your Latent Powers
“Faculty X is simply that latent power in human beings possess to reach beyond the present. After all, we know perfectly well that the past is as real as the present, and that New York and Singapore and Lhasa and Stepney Green are all as real as the place I happen to be in at the moment. Yet my senses do not agree. They assure me that this place, here and now, is far more real than any other place or any other time. Only in certain moments of great inner intensity do I know this to be a lie. Faculty X is a sense of reality, the reality of other places and other times, and it is the possession of it — fragmentary and uncertain though it is — that distinguishes man from all other animals.”
–Colin Wilson (English Novelist and Writer on Philosophy, Sociology and the Occult, 1931-)
Timeless Awareness
“Organismic awareness is what we, on the Ego Level ordinarily, but clumsily, refer to as seeing, touching, tasting, smelling and hearing. But in its very purest form, this “sensual awareness” is non-symbolic, non-conceptual, momentary consciousness. Organismic awareness is awareness of the Present only you can’t taste the past, smell the past, see the past, touch the past, or hear the past. Neither can you taste, smell, see, touch or hear the future. In other words, organismic consciousness is properly timeless, and being timeless, it is essentially spaceless. Just as organismic awareness knows no past or future, it knows no inside or outside, no self or other. Thus pure organismic consciousness participates fully in the nondual awareness called Absolute Subjectivity.”
–Ken Wilber (American Philosopher, 1949-)
Time, Space and Consciousness
“Your consciousness can travel at the speed of slow trains, it can travel at the speed of Light, and it can travel even faster. Hence, time and space are functions of consciousness. Consciousness is out of the scope of time and space…”
–Peter Konstantinov Deunov (a.k.a. Master Beinsa Douno, Bulgarian Spiritual Master and Founder of a School of Esoteric Christianity, 1864-1944)
(Originally published in Youth Esoteric Class, year 1, Lecture 13, Contradictions in Life, 24 May 1922)
“Prophet for Our Times: The Life and Teachings of Peter Deunov” (Peter Duenov)
Consciously Using Time
“When you consciously use time
To do something Divine,
You enter into timeless Time.
When you are consciously thinking
Of something divine, eternal Life come
And shakes hands with you.”
–Sri Chinmoy (a.k.a. Chinmoy Kumar Ghose, Indian Philosopher and Spiritual Teacher, 1931-2007)
States Determine Time
“When it is state that determines time, time is only an appearance. A pleasant state makes time seem brief, and an unpleasant one makes it seem long. We can therefore see that time in the spiritual world is simply an attribute of state.”
–Emanuel Swedenborg (Swedish Scientist, Mystic and Philosopher, 1688-1772)
Ancient Stories That Guide Our Lives
“Whereas we think in periods of years, the unconscious thinks and lives in terms of millennia. So when something happens that seems to us an unexampled novelty, it is generally a very old story indeed. We still forget, like children, what happened yesterday. We are still living in a wonderful new world where man thinks himself astonishingly new and “modern.” This is unmistakable proof of the youthfulness of human consciousness, which has not yet grown aware of its historical antecedents.”
–Carl G. Jung (Swiss Psychologist and Psychiatrist, 1875-1961)
The Stream of Life
“The same stream of life that runs through the world runs through my veins night and day runs through the world and dances in rhythmic measures. It is the same life that shoots in joy through the dust of the earth in numberless blades of grass and breaks into tumultuous waves of leaves and flowers. It is the same life that is rocked in the ocean-cradle of birth and of death, in ebb and in flow. I feel my limbs are made glorious by the touch of this world of life. And my pride is from the life-throb of ages dancing in my blood this moment.”
–Rabindranath Tagore (Indian Poet, Playwright, Essayist, Painter and, in 1913, Winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, 1861-1941)
Time and Patience
“The strongest of all warriors are these two: Time and Patience.”
–Count Leo Tolstoy (Russian Writer and Philosopher, 1828-1910)
Timelessness
“There is an everlasting in which past, present and future are one, and when we brood on the past, it may be our intensity brings us to live in that brooded upon. It is not only in vision that we revisit the past: our hearts may sink into it and know what others have known.”
–George William Russell (a.k.a. “A.E.” Irish Poet, Artist and Mystic, 1867-1935)
