Goldilocks Light
“There are two kinds of light—the glow that illumines, and the glare that obscures.”
–James Thurber (American Writer, 1894-1961)
Truth, Beauty and Harmony
“When the universe is in harmony with man – the eternal, we know it as truth but we feel it as beauty.”
–Rabindranath Tagore (Indian Poet, Playwright, Essayist, Painter and, in 1913, Winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, 1861-1941)
A Cause of Disease
“Disease of the body as we know it, is a result, an end product, a final stage of something much deeper. Disease originates above the physical plane, nearer to the mental. It is entirely the result of a conflict between our spiritual and mortal selves. So long as these two are in harmony, we are in perfect health: but when there is discord there follows what we know as disease.”
–Edward Bach (English Physician and Creator of the Bach Flower Essences, 1886-1936)
The Fruits of Enlightenment
“Enlightenment – the awakening of insight that happens in yourself and is independent of others – makes it possible to create an everlasting world of beauty and harmony, the home of nirvana.”
–Yrjö Kallinen (Finnish Educator, Politician and Pacifist 1886-1976)
Harmonious Equilibrium
“No matter how great the disturbances, how persistent and for how long they may continue, their effects are temporary. The universally operative law causes harmonious equilibrium to be restored in the disequiliberated region.”
–Geoffrey Hodson (English-born New Zealand Theosophist, Mystic, Teacher and Author, 1886-1983)
Symmetry
“The geometry of the archetypes and the Universal Mind are evident in the principles of symmetry which pervade nature and art. Symmetry shows us a glimpse of the ideal beauty which is reflected in nature, infusing it with order. Symmetry is universal; it can be found everywhere as the broad principle of balance and harmony.”
–Shirley J. Nicholson (American Teacher, Theosophist, Author, Former Chief Editor of Quest Books and Resident Head of the Krotona Community)
“Ancient Wisdom – Modern Insight (Quest Books)” (Shirley J. Nicholson)
Harmony
“A man should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day of his life, in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful which God has implanted in the human soul.”
–Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (German Poet, Playwright and Philosopher, 1749-1832)
The Highest Education
“The highest education is that which not merely gives us information but makes our life in harmony with all existence.”
–Rabindranath Tagore (Indian Poet, Playwright, Essayist, Painter and, in 1913, Winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, 1861-1941)
Harmony
Earlier today I was talking to someone who has lived her life constantly concerned about the opinions of other people, and she is now getting badly burned by it.
I was remembering this ancient quotation. I hope that you find it as true and inspiring as she did:
“Don’t be concerned with other people’s impressions of you. They are dazzled and deluded by appearances, be on your guard against a false sense of self-importance. Keeping your will in harmony with truth and concerning yourself with what is beyond your control are mutually exclusive.”
–Epictetus (Phrygian-born Greek Stoic Philosopher, c.A.D.55- c.A.D.135)
Harmony and Health
“A healthy person is one with mind, heart and will in complete harmony – with light in the mind, an impulse and stimulus in the heart and energy in the will.”
–Peter Konstantinov Deunov (a.k.a. Master Beinsa Douno, Bulgarian Spiritual Master and Founder of a School of Esoteric Christianity, 1864-1944)
